Moving to Chiltern in the late 1960’s, Eileen developed a keen interest in the surrounding State Park and its unique biodiversity. Joining the reformed Friends of Chiltern group in 1991, Eileen was at the forefront of the bushland revegetation efforts and the surveying and recording of flora and fauna. Parks Victoria awarded Eileen the Kookaburra Award in 2000, for her outstanding individual contribution to Victoria’s parks system. Aware of the richness of the area, Eileen was one of the driving forces behind the group’s push for raising the park status. Finally in 2002, Chiltern – Mt Pilot National Park was declared.
Eileen is still an active member of the Friends of Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park, a group of people dedicated to the enhancement of the precious box-ironbark ecosystem.
