Tool Details and Function
The Model 3116-30 is a specific size of Kirschen's professional carving line. It has a width of 30mm and features the Cut 7 sweep, which means it has a medium, versatile curve ideal for scooping wood.
First of all, the curved shape is great for quickly digging out the center material from any round object. For example, you can use it to rough out a deep wooden bowl or the cup of a Kuksa (a traditional Scandinavian drinking cup).
Working with the Gouge
This tool is designed for versatility in your carving technique.
On one hand, you can use it for careful, two-handed cuts to slice and pare away thin shavings, which gives you excellent control for shaping. On the other hand, the strong design and reinforced handle allow for heavy work.
